About This Place

Nestled along the scenic Kawaihae Road in Waimea, Cipriano's Kitchen stands as a beacon of authentic Italian cuisine infused with local Hawaiian flavors and tantalizing Peruvian specialties. This charming Italian restaurant delivers a culinary experience that transports guests far beyond the shores of the Big Island, offering a genuine taste of Italy enriched by fresh island ingredients and inventive dishes.

At Cipriano's Kitchen, the menu is a vibrant celebration of both tradition and creativity. Signature dishes like the tender octopus appear in several masterful preparations, from the smoky Puttanesca with Octopus to the uniquely decadent Ube Gnocchi with Octopus. The seafood offerings are extraordinary—imagine succulent Kona lobster, Kauai shrimp, and fresh scallops, all cooked to perfection and paired with rich, flavorful sauces that speak of coastal heritage. The Cioppino and Osso Bucco are standout choices for those craving hearty, soul-warming Italian classics.

Fans of lighter fare will find the Mix Local Greens Salad and crisp Caesar Salad refreshing in their simplicity, while the selection of paninis—like the savory Mortadella Panini or the robust Focaccia Meatball Panini—showcases the kitchen’s commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients and satisfying flavors. For an unexpected twist, the Peruvian Pork Belly Sandwich and the bright, citrusy Peruvian Shrimp Cocktail add a delightful layer of cultural fusion that sets Cipriano’s apart from any ordinary Italian spot.

Dessert at Cipriano’s is nothing short of divine. The Chocolate Cannoli with Lilikoi offers a luscious blend of rich chocolate and tropical passionfruit, creating a perfect balance of sweetness and tartness. The airy Lilikoi Mousse and classic Tiramisu complete the meal on a light, satisfying note. Baked goods like their flaky Croissant and tender Muffin also hint at a passion for perfect pastry craftsmanship.

Beyond the plates, Cipriano’s Kitchen excels with a warm, inviting atmosphere that mirrors the genuine aloha spirit. Guests often comment on the attentive, knowledgeable staff and the personable hospitality from owner Claudia, whose enthusiasm and care turn every visit into a memorable occasion. The restaurant’s cozy yet elegant setting invites relaxed conversation and savored moments, whether you’re enjoying a leisurely lunch after a beach day or a romantic dinner infused with thoughtful wine pairings, including delightful choices such as the Organic Malvasia Sicily.

Acts of culinary brilliance and heartfelt service combine at Cipriano’s Kitchen, making it not just a meal but an experience. As one guest perfectly put it, this is “the only genuine Italian food on the Big Island” — a gem where fresh farm-to-table ingredients, bold flavors, and authentic recipes converge to create a truly unforgettable dining journey.

An absolute gem of a locally managed eatery. Fantastic staff, but better food. Try the made from scratch juice specials. All the greens are fresh to include the delicious Caesar salad. The seafood was perfectly cooked and included Kona lobster, Kauai shrimp, grilled octopus, calamari, and fresh scallops. A must visit for an outstanding culinary experience.

Best food on the Big Island, best Italian outside of Italy, best Peruvian since my Grandmother’s cooking. Incredible experience all around. I had been coveting this place for about a week and boy did it surpass all expectation. Knowledgeable, attentive service and seafood cooked to perfection, they really hit all the marks. If you’re ready to throw down on an unforgettable dining experience, this is THE place. Chef’s kiss all around. I can’t wait to visit this gem again!

We were spending the day at Hapuna Beach when we luckily stumbled upon Cipriano for lunch. What a find! Claudia, the owner, was incredibly friendly and such a joy to chat with. She gave us amazing recommendations based on our preferences (and my wife’s gluten and dairy restrictions), which made the whole experience even better. We started with a Peruvian ceviche featuring local kampachi and Hokkaido scallops. So fresh and full of flavor! For our mains, we went with the mixed seafood squid ink pasta and the seafood cioppino made with gluten-free pasta. Every bite was perfect: the seafood was unbelievably fresh, the pasta was made in-house, and both dishes were among the best we’ve ever had! For dessert, we tried the gluten-free cookies and chocolate cake. Both were delicious. The food was so good we cleaned our plates completely… and ended up skipping dinner that night, haha. We loved Cipriano so much that two days later we drove 30 minutes just to come back for lunch. This time, we ordered the seafood cioppino again (because we couldn’t resist) and a white sauce pasta loaded with abalone, octopus, and scallops; and it was just as amazing as before. Cipriano is hands down our favorite Italian restaurant in the U.S. Thank you, Claudia and Gino, for such unforgettable meals!

Kira and I were driving up and down the west side of the island and came upon the Cipriano's Kitchen, marked by the telltale Italian Café sign along the road. Where to begin with was truly the best meal experience of our entire vacation. First - the hosts are amazing, they sat down and visited with us - making recommendations from what was the most incredible menu. The coffee was the perfect start to an incredible brunch! The specials were delectable. We happened upon a place that it is clear other go in search of. Dont hesitate - go now for Breakfast, Brunch or Lunch. They also do dinner one night a week!

Fabulous, farm fresh food served with love and a big smile. This is THE ONLY genuine Italian food on the Big Island (we're talking way beyond pizza, folks) . Fresh island fish, shrimp, scallops, calamari, Kona lobster, and other meats served with delicious sauces and House made pasta. Salads fresh from the farm. We enjoyed the Kona lobster ravioli, with fresh seared scallops (because, why not?) in a lovely lemon cream sauce; and the Meatballs in red sauce pasta. Both were incredibly flavorful. We could eat only half of each dish so gourmet leftovers. Certainly hard to choose from their large regular menu + 5 daily specials. Our hostess, owner Claudia, made us feel so welcomed and we left feeling we had made a new Island friend. Yes, this is a bit of a drive north from Kona, but worth every mile. Check their website for hours, as they are open for dinner on Saturday only and reservations are a must. They offer a nice breakfast menu as well.

This is truly the BEST food we've ever had! Every dish we've had here is bursting with flavor, freshness, and love! Claudia treats us like family and always provides outstanding service. Gino (her husband, the Chef) clearly puts his heart and soul in every dish. Several of the people around us were visiting the island and said they loved the food so much, they came back twice or more during their trip. And that's just it, once you eat here, you'll come back again and again and again because it's truly the best.

Excellent food and even better hospitality! Some of the best dishes I’ve had in a very long time. The host is incredibly kind and attentive, making sure there’s something for everyone’s dietary needs. Every plate feels thoughtfully made — fresh ingredients, great flavors, and real cooking skill you can taste. And the tiramisu? Hands down one of the best ever — light, creamy, and unforgettable. We loved it so much that we came back for the rest of our trip just for the tiramisu and focaccia bread. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Kona!

Amazing fresh, high-quality food! Yes, it’s on the pricey side, but the ingredients and flavors really shine. We ordered the panzanella salad with homemade focaccia, the fish-of-the-day ceviche (we added scallops), the Amatriciana with added octopus, and the seafood stew (Cioppino) with lobster. Everything tasted incredibly fresh—especially the salad and ceviche, which were absolute standouts. The Amatriciana was rich and flavorful with tons of guanciale, and the Cioppino was huge—definitely too much for one person. Honestly, we didn’t need to add octopus or scallops; the dishes were already generous and well-balanced on their own. Our daughter also enjoyed the mango coconut lemonade! Super refreshing, as well as the tiramisu which had lots of coffee infused inside. Service was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout the meal. Overall, an excellent dining experience. I’d definitely go back!
